January 2017: Article in Mammal Research

“A reindeer paper for Christmas ! A new paper arising from a collaboration of the TRIDENT team with the ArScAn team (Paris I-Sorbonne) and the Norvegian Institute for Nature Research came out in Mammal Research. Here we explored the variations of the dental microwear textural analysis on two large present-day populations of wild reindeer (Rangifer tarandus). Our aim here was to frame how dental microwear textures vary depending on age, gender, animal densities, local environmental conditions before any application and further interpretations on fossil assemblages.”

September 2016 : Article in the Proceedings of the Royal Society, Biological Science

“A new TRIDENT paper came out this week ! Here we simulate the effects of airborne dust ingested by wild ruminants while browsing and grazing on dental micro-abrasion in order to test the capability of dental microwear textural analysis to track vegetal resources in different dust-free and windswept environments. Our results have also far reaching implications on our understanding on how biotic and abiotic factors could contribute to the natural selection of dental phenotypes.”

July 2016 : Article in Ecology and Evolution

“A new TRIDENT paper dealing with the controlled-food trials of domestic sheep came out this week ! Here we explore the effects of seed-eating on dental micro-abrasion in order to test the capability of dental microwear textural analysis to track the whole spectrum of the dietary habits among the browsing ecospace.”

The TRIDENT team comes out in force at the ICSM april 2016 meeting

Last month, the TRIDENT team traveled to Poland to present our results on an international level. The International conference on surface metrology was held this year in the historical town of Poznan in Poland, and offered an excellent opportunity to present the project to scientists from a wide range of fields from paleontology to engineering but who all focus on the analysis of surfaces.
